The collection contains an uncorrected galley proof, 1957, of "The short reign of Pippin IV," with an inscription to Rupert Andrus by Steinbeck. With it are two letters, 1957 January 15 and February 2, between Andrus and John J. Mullen of Viking Press re the galley and a 1957 letter from Steinbeck to Pat Covici of Viking Press discussing the book and reading his short stories "The Snake" and "Johnny Bear" for the Columbia Literary Series, Goddard Lieberson, editor.
